In the Republic of South Africa, the Democratic Alliance party officially introduced in parliament a new law B11-2024 to regulate the iGaming sector (online casinos). This law is called the “Remote Gambling Bill.”
It was developed after two years of work and consultations with professionals in the gambling business. The purpose of the bill is to regulate the online gambling sector while maintaining the maximum balance between protection and administration.
It is worth noting that in 2008, the President of South Africa approved the National Gambling Law. He is responsible for the official regulation of the online casino sector. But it never came into force, although access to the Internet and technology has changed significantly in the country in almost sixteen years.
The new bill will regulate online gambling throughout South Africa. Thus, strict age restrictions should be introduced for users. In addition, the Democratic Alliance proposes to create a special structure for regulating gambling. This concerns licensing rules, the fight against illegal gambling activities, and sanctions for operators who do not comply with the laws.
The bill also provides for the introduction of three types of licenses. Documents for online activities will be issued by an authorized regulatory body. There will also be procedures for filing complaints related to the issuance of licenses. It is also planned to introduce restrictions on iGaming advertising; now such messages must contain words about responsible gaming and age restrictions.
