Japanese authorities have rejected a proposal to build a casino resort in Nagasaki

The Japanese government has officially announced that it will not approve the construction of a casino resort in Nagasaki Prefecture. The reason for this decision was doubts about the financial capabilities of the companies associated with the project.

The statement that there will be no casino in Nagasaki was made by the Japan Tourism Agency, which reports to the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The decision was made by a specialized committee that considered Nagasaki’s proposal to build a resort with gaming facilities. The project was called inappropriate, because the initiative does not meet the standards that Japan adheres to in the field of international relations.

It is also known that there are doubts that entrepreneurs will be able to finance the resort in Nagasaki. And the list of parties who participated in the project has changed quite a lot since the application was submitted. Authorities have also questioned whether there is enough skill and experience to develop integrated resorts.

Nagasaki applied in April 2022. Osaka also put forward a proposal to build a casino resort. And it was approved. The joint project of the operator MGM and the Japanese company ORIX will be implemented by the fall of 2030.

Nagasaki proposed to build a casino resort for 438.3 billion yen. The company Casinos Austria International Japan Inc. wanted to take on it.
